2016 Information & Nominations
General Exchange Faq by
bridgetmkennitt
Every Woman is a fanfic and fanart exchange for works involving women. We take a rather broad approach on women. This exchange allows:
-Cis women
-Trans women
-Canon female versions of canonical male characters
-Characters from video games where you choose the gender
-Characters that exist but canon doesn’t reveal their gender
-2nd person works where it is not clearly stated what gender the character is
-RPF of people who identify as female
-Characters that aren’t necessarily women in canon but that a person could make a case for where a reasonable person would understand why they could be interpreted as female.
For modern RPF there are four guidelines:
-Must be over 18
-They can be removed at the request of the individual
-Must not be in horrendously bad taste. I am the sole arbitrator of horrendously bad taste
-Non-famous family and friends are not eligible
Each participant must make either a fanfic of at least 500 words or a fanart at a minimum of nice sketch stage. Lined paper killed my father. I hate it. So fanart should not be on lined paper.
Allowance into this exchange is not meant as a final definitive statement that a character absolutely, 100% female. However, all characters that are nominated should be treated as women in fanworks produced for this exchange.
Schedule
May 1 - May 8 Nominations
May 9 - 11 Clean up
May 12 - May 19 Sign-up
June 23 Assignments due
June 27 Pinch hits due
June 30 Stories revealed
July 7 Authors revealed
Everything ends at 23:59 Zulu time on the date.
Nominations
-4 fandoms and 4 “characters” each
-You may nominate a clearly defined group of up to 4 women in a character slot. These should be in the format of “Group: Emily & Victoria”. The ampersand does not state what type of relationship there is between the characters. It doesn’t matter if you want friendship, romance, hate, etc. use an ampersand. You should only nominate characters in a group if all of them would fall under that fandom if separated out. Otherwise it must go to Crossover Groups.
-You may nominate crossovers under the fandom Crossover Groups
-You may nominate original characters under Original Works
-I will not be accepting umbrella fandoms for Lord of the Rings – All Media Types, The Hobbit – All Media Types, Tolkein – Works, etc. If nominating something that falls under one of these then be specific about which version.
-If you are nominating a character that is not a clear cut case of being female then post and explain it
Nominations are open now.
Extensions
Yes, you can have an extension if you ask me before gifts are due. There is a catch. If you ask for an extension you must complete a penalty gift for any request in this year of the exchange, except yourself, before May 1, 2017 or else you will not be allowed to participate for one round.

That is fine but use the ampersand instead of the X.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your question as asking for a group with an OC and a canon. Yeah, you can nominate stuff like Original Vulcan Character or Original SHIELD Agent.

1) Can series from the Transformers franchise be nominated as separate series like in Trick or Treat?
2) What do I need to do to prove that nominated Transformers characters are female? Do I just need to find something with them being referred to with female pronouns, or do I need more than that?
Thanks for answering! (Also, I love your new icon.)

2) As long as it is pretty obvious on Transformers wiki that they identify as female then that is good enough for me.
I'd really love it if you could save me some time by disambiguating the specific fandom for each character.
And thank you!

One question, what is the purpose behind nominating four characters as one in a group if they're in the same fandom?

So, if you were to request the fandom Corpse Bride if you liked both Emily and Victoria and would be happy getting just one in a work you would nominate them separately. If you really wanted a work to include both then you'd nominate them as Group: Emily & Victoria in a single slot. That way only someone offering the group would be matched to you and not someone that just wanted to do one or the other. If you wanted something with either Emily or Emily & Victoria, but not Victoria by herself then you could do Emily and then Group: Emily & Victoria. You'd be matched to someone offering Emily by herself, or the group, but not someone offering just Victoria.
So the short version is it lets us use OR type character matching on the AO3 end but effectively do either AND or OR.

No. I did ask before this round if people would be okay with groups that included male characters but the overwhelming voting was for not allowing it. Because the vote was no I'm not allowing relationships to be nominated in general. Multiple characters can only be nominated with an ampersand which in this exchange does not indicate any articular relationship. Maybe next year the consensus will change and I'll be able to allow relationships involving women and not just female characters.
What you can do is nominate Lady Character and in your optional details express desire for Lady Character/Canon Husband. That is totally fine.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)I thought I saw a couple of & relationships between two women in the tag set, that prompted my question above. Clearly I saw wrong or something. :/

I want to nominate Adi Gallia, Shaak Ti, Depa Billaba, and Stass Allie. They all have brief cameos in the prequels, but also appear in the Clone Wars TV series (and Adi especially has a much larger role), and the majority of material about them would come under Legends (but the fandom would be Legends - AMT, which I'm not sure is allowed). What should I do?

Requests 3-10 fandoms, no repeats, 1-10 characters.
Offers 4-10 fandoms, no repeats, 2-10 characters.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-08 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)1) I nominated Alluka from HxH, she is canonically a trans girl (her brother, person closest to her, always uses female pronouns towards her and calls her his sister, but other family members misgender her) but because of other characters misgendering her on some websites Alluka is listed as male, is that fine?
2) I also nominated Kyuubei from Gintama, they're assigned female at birth non-binary person (fandom widely uses female pronouns towards them). I'm not sure if they're allowed?

This exchange only requires fic for a minimum of one character or group. Groups are nominated in the format of "Group: Character A & Character B"

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)Mod, I think you should clarify somewhere that if people are requesting groups, they're asking for all the characters in that grouping. Some people are signing up, requesting groups, and thinking that offering a group means they're asking for any of the characters in the group and not all the characters in a group.
