Don't worry about it. I am also doing something completely new with how I
am trying to do both AND and OR at the same time. I'm also not always the
best at articulating things.
So, as far as AO3 is concerned this is an OR matching exchange. In order
to accomodate both groups of people I let people nominate characters
individually or in groups of two or three. Whoever matches to you has to
give you a story/art with the minimum contents of at least one of the
character tags you selected.
To use Madoka Magica as an example. If you signed up and asked for just
"group: Kyouko & Madoka" you would have to get a gift with both
characters. But if you instead selected "Kaname Madoka" and "Sakura
Kyouko" as separate tags then your author would only have to do something
with one character. If you instead say selected "group: Kyouko & Madoka"
and then "Akemi Homura" separately you would get a gift with either both
Kyouko & Madoka or just Homura. This way people can ask for closer to what
they actually want and people that don't want to worry about being forced
to write specific combos can still offer the characters individually. The
one downside is that anyone wanting groups would have to have nominated
them as such.
Does all this make sense? Now, I don't think there are any groups for
Madoka Magica, I was just using that as an example. You can still mention
other random characters and prompts and such. Though to clarify the groups
don't mean the characters have to have any specific relationship, just that
they both have to appear.
